Hello Woodturners! Welcome to the Holiday Season! With Thanksgiving behind us, and Christmas looming, it’s time to Party! And that is just what we will do this Saturday at 9:30 am (one half hour later than our usual time) at the TJC West Campus. There will be raffles, announcements, awards, and of course food. Hello Woodturners! Ah, finally a change to the season! Or is it? 33 degrees one day and a 90 degree high four days later! From heavy sweatshirt to shorts and barefoot. If you don’t like the weather in East Texas, wait five minutes ... ![]()
Hello Woodturners! Autumn is finally arrived, and I am more than ready for cooler weather! It’s the time of year that I just want to be outside. Limber up the fly rod and put me in a river, and then just leave me alone. Especially if it’s cold and rainy when other anglers are in the den watching football, I’m wading thigh deep and roll casting into the shallows. I find that the more miserable you are, the happier the trout are.... ![]()
Hello Woodturners! Ah, where to begin. There is a lot happening this month in the world of woodturning. We return to club meetings this month having had to skip last month due to room scheduling issues and Holidays. We do the same next month with NO MEETING in September. We’ll try and make the August 6 meeting special to make up for it ..... ![]()
Welcome to July Woodturners! (also known as “Hell’s Waiting Room”)I hope you enjoyed the Fourth of July Holiday weekend. It was certainly hotter than a firecracker, and the a/c in my shop just couldn’t keep up. 100 degree+ temperatures on a metal clad building makes it feel like an easy-bake oven. The good news is it makes finishes dry faster. (every cloud…) .... ![]()
Hello Woodturners! Well June is busting out all over and my wife’s gardens are just hitting their full stride. I wish my turnings could match their depth, breadth and beauty, but I think my lathe would have to be MUCH larger, and the operator more skilled than he will become in this lifetime. But, you just have to keep trying to be better today than you were yesterday. It’s all about growth .... ![]()
Hello Woodturners! The month of May in the Lone Star State is certainly a mixed bag for weather. From the mid 40’s to the high 90’s, sunny to stormy to dangerous in the space of a deep breath, or a long sigh, if you don’t like the weather here, then wait five minutes. Friends in the Azalea District may spend months geng their homes and lives back together, and folks in Gilmer and other areas lost a lot of trees, some well over 100 years old. There, but for the grace of God… ![]()
Hello Woodturners! April showers bring May flowers is the old children’s rhyme. Some of us old children know we need the rain, but treasure instead mild sunny days with a light breeze and the shop doors open allowing us to see the gardens awakening again. I hope your Spring looks as hopeful as mine .... ![]()
Hello Woodturners! Welcome to the beginning of Spring come the 20th of March. It can’t come soon enough for me. This piece was written in front of the fireplace while it sleets outside and the power is out. God sneezes and my lights go out. Go figure. Our meeting this month is on March 5th . TJC has Spring Break during our regular meeting time and the campus will not be available to us ..... ![]()
Prez says: Hello Woodturners! Welcome to February! This is not only the month for Valentine’s Day, but is also the shortest month of the year. At one point, February was only 23 days long! February is also one of the most misspelled words in the English language .... ![]()
